About Me

Hi there, my name is Steve Eilertsen – Blogger | Author of “The Flames On My Tank” motorcycle website serving the best interests of bikes of all levels of experience since 1999. Thanks for all the support and emails over the years!

After blogging professionally for a South African motorcycle company for 18 months I have now started the Flames On My Tank blog.

The original website is informative and sought to be politically correct across a wide spectrum of motorbike owners – this blog however is opinion, opinion, opinion !!

Enjoy!

  1. Dear Mr. Eilertsen,

At first, thank you for putting up this blog! My girlfriend Anne and I really enjoyed reading and rummaging in “flames on my tank”. We are both passionate about motorbikes albeit Anne is a kind of newbie obtaining her licence just last year.

We are currently living in Germany but we are about to move to Johannesburg most probably in July where my girlfriend has been offered a job. I used to work for a communication consultancy agancy but I have gone into business for myself as a consultant in communications and social media. We were wondering if you would mind us inquiring some aspects about living, working and – of course – motorcycling in South Africa and Johannesburg in particular. Because we are considering taking our two-wheelers (BMW R1100GS and a Honda XR600V Transalp) with us to and riding them in Johannesburg/South Africa. And if it is not too much to ask, we would very much like to get in touch once we have built our base.

I don’t know about your command of German, but if you are interested, you can
at least check out the pictures of our 2011 motorbike trip in Southeastern Europe and Italy: http://diedickeunddieblaue.wordpress.com/2011/08/26/ .

We hope this finds you well. Best regards,

    Anne & Jan

    • Hi Jan

You are most welcome. SA is a great motorcycling country so bring your bikes if the import duties are not too much (which they should not be because the bikes are not new)
      Feel free to mail me on s t e v e . e i l e r t s e n @ g m a i l . c o m
I have often assisted with info for people considering relocating to SA so send me your questions / concerns

      Regards

  2. Hi Steve. I am a photographer from Cape Town and have just been commissioned to photograph the history of mining in JHB. Your East-West JHB mine tour sounds fantastic. I would love to have a chat with you about it. Please mail me!
    Thanks
